Job Description
- The Retail Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications, providing expert advice on drug usage, ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations, and supporting the smooth running of the pharmacy.
- The role also includes inventory management, patient counseling, and actively promoting relevant products and services through cross-selling and upselling techniques to improve patient outcomes and drive revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications accurately and efficiently.
- Provide professional advice on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.
- Proactively recommend relevant OTC items, supplements, or personal care products (cross-selling).
- Upsell premium or value-added healthcare products when appropriate to meet customer needs.
- Review prescriptions to ensure accuracy and appropriateness before dispensing.
- Counsel patients on proper use of medication and answer health-related questions.
- Maintain proper storage and labeling of all medications.
- Monitor and manage inventory to avoid stockouts or overstocking; place re-orders as needed.
- Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with regulatory and professional standards (PCN, NAFDAC, etc.).
- Keep accurate patient and inventory records using available pharmacy management systems.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and other support staff to ensure adherence to professional standards.
- Handle customer complaints or issues related to prescriptions with professionalism.
- Participate in periodic audits, stock checks, and other internal control activities.
- Keep up-to-date with new medications, treatments, and pharmaceutical guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a retail or community pharmacy setting.
- Current license from the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good knowledge of pharmaceutical products, drug interactions, and best practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and pharmacy management software (if applicable).
